HAK, staged by D22 in Turkey, is a solo play based on the biographical story of Syrian artist Amal Omran, with a central theme of war. The European performances of the play were conducted in Arabic, while it premiered in English at New York's HB Studio under the direction of Jee Duman. Produced by Buket Gülbeyaz, who also performed in the English version, the play was reimagined using devising techniques and transformed into a physical performance with a cast of five. During its run at HB Studio, the play received excellent reviews from local theatergoers for its powerful reflection of the shifting political landscape. HAK also became a pivotal reference for Buket Gülbeyaz in securing an American artist visa.
