Habitat, written and directed by Buket Gülbeyaz, is her debut play. It portrays the lives of four women living in Istanbul, blending surreal elements with dance and music. The play also touches on recent history and real events in Beyoğlu, creating a rich, layered narrative that explores both personal and collective experiences.
The production of Habitat was undertaken by 4th U Artivists, one of the most respected non-profit organizations in New York City, with the support of Eve Ensler. After its Off-Off Broadway debut, Habitat earned the opportunity to participate in the UNFIX Festival in collaboration with renowned Butoh performance artist Ren Gyo Soh. The play, featuring a predominantly gender-fluid cast and focusing on themes of body, memory, and gender, continued its run with sponsorship from V-Day and One Billion Rising, organizations dedicated to preventing violence against women. In response to the overwhelming interest in the play, the Habitat team donated all ticket proceeds to support this cause and committed to continuing their future work as a non-profit group.
