"Afife is a beacon of light, a symbol that has inspired generations of theatre artists and courageous women, guiding them through dark times like a lighthouse. This is a contemporary interpretation of Afife's rebellion against a system that prohibited women from appearing on stage and being seen. Afife, who passionately longed to be on stage with her entire being, defied these prohibitions. Set in Istanbul under occupation, the play unfolds behind the scenes of a multicultural theatre troupe that considers its stage as its front line."
Written by Selin Cankı Ceylan and directed by Serdar Bilis, Afife will be performed at the Zorlu PSM Turkcell Stage throughout the new season. Buket Gülbeyaz contributed to this project as an assistant director.
